​EROSION: OBIANO SIGNS RECLAMATION CONTRACTS FOR OBOSI, OGIDI WORLD BANK APPROVED SITE

The Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano has signed contract for the control and reclamation works to commence on two World Bank approved erosion sites at Ugamuma, Obosi and Ikenga, Ogidi.

This now brings to six, the total number of erosion ravaged spots in the state that the World Bank is assisting the state to address. While work has commenced in these locations, there are other six remaining sites where work are at different stages of documentation. 

According to the contract, the project has a maximum completion period of 24 months. 

In a remark during before signing the contract documents, Gov Obiano emphasized that Anambra is the obligor to the contract as the money provided by World Bank was not a grant but a long-term loan taken at a minimal interest rate.

He said the State Government will constantly oversight the project to ensure that it is executed in line with best practices in erosion control works. He urged the contractor to keep to the terms of the contract.

The governor expressed gratitude to the World Bank for agreeing to intervene in 12 erosion sites in the state, appealing for more interventions. 

Anambra state is among the states in the country that have high profile erosion challenges.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ejikeme said the event was a reality because the present administration had followed its efforts at attracting the World Bank interventions with credible evidences and has also shown transparency in dealing with development partners. 

In his comments the Project Coordinator, Mr Michael Ivenso Jnr revealed that the event was consistent with the efforts of Gov Obiano aimed at achieving environmental sustainability in the state, noting that the contractor had emerged from a credible bidding process overseen by the World Bank. 

The Contractor to the project, Mr Frank Nnaji assured that they will deploy every resources needed to deliver the Project in line with agreed terms. 

The Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners, Mr Mark Okoye thanked World Bank for supporting the state, saying the Ministry will follow through with the documentation processes to ensure that the remaining 6 projects commence in no distant time.
