Gov Willie Obiano has assured that he will complete many on-going road projects in the state before the rains set in.
The governor revealed this during his inspection tour to various road project sites, at the Nengo bridge along the Nteje-Umunya road.
Gov Obiano, while addressing the people after the inspection exercise said the project was awarded to create a major diversion from the very bad spots along the Umunya axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway promised that government will ensure that funds were made available to enable the contractor complete the project soon.
The Managing Director of the contracting firm handling the project, Mr Tony Madi assured that the bridge will be completed within four months in keeping with best standards in bridge construction.
The traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Rowland Odegbo thanked the governor for his commitment to completing the project and said it will go a long way to reassure the people that all the promises he made during his reelection campaigns will be fulfilled.
The governor later inspected the construction work on the 4.3km Ogbu-Mgbede – Otuocha- Onitsha road which was awarded last year and observed that the road has been fully cleared, while earthwork, drainage construction and asphalting were ongoing.
Speaking at the site, Gov Obiano who noted that his administration constructed the first tarred road in Umueri. He pointed out that when completed, the road which connects about 4 communities, would have all the compliments of a standard road including streetlights, road markings and signs.
He thanked Umueri people for the great support they gave to him during the November 18th governorship election last year and urged them to sustain the support to enable him do more for them.
The Commissioner for Road Infrastructure, furniture and Maintenance, Chief Law Chinwuba explained that the road was very strategic as it creates a detour from the Old Otuocha-Onitsha road for farmers in the area who wish to evacuate their farm produce to Onitsha.
