Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday said that no nation could move forward at a progressive pace if women were not carried along.

Ambode echoed the assertions of his counterparts from Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel; Edo, Godwin Obaseki; Bayelsa; Seriake Dickson and Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose.

They spoke at the opening ceremony of the 17th National Women’s Conference (NWC) with the theme: She Creates, She Transforms, organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO).. In his goodwill message, Ambode saluted women’s resilience in their different spheres, noting that women were naturally gifted with skills and talents that make positive difference and impact on their generation.

“Our women are constantly creative; making something out of nothing. Creativity has become very essential to succeed in today’s world because we face new challenges everyday at home and at work. As the woman creates and transforms, she positively impacts the family, the workplace and the nation.”

“With the female population in our country today, it is clear that our women have the capacity to positively affect the Nigerian economy and are already doing so.”

Speaking, Udom said the highest kind of love stays with women and they use it in creating and transforming whatever is given to them.

Fayose noted that life without women would be full of crises, arguing that with a woman in charge of the country, things would turn around positively.

Dickson said women’s role in transforming life could not be underestimated, adding that it was imperative for women to always be celebrated.

In his response, Obaseki commended Lagos State for the initiative. Meanwhile, wife of the Lagos governor and Chairman, COWLSO, Bolanle Ambode, said the theme of the conference, which centres on creativity and skills acquisition, focused on the ingenuity of Nigerian women in the pursuit of innovative and practical solutions.

“Women are created in a unique way and endowed with skills and creativity. We are helpmates and we care for the family. We impact our immediate environment positively. The woman creates out of very little. We transform the little created to something bigger and better. Our transformation efforts extend to all facets of human engagement,” she said.

Declaring the conference open, wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, challenged women to reflect on the past, know where they were coming from and continue to create and transform the country.
