Anambra 2017: Agbaso serves notice of APGA congress to INEC
The Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the weekend led a team of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to present its programme ahead of the party’s congress and primary election for the Anambra State Governorship Election onAugust 18 in Awka.The Acting National Chairman who was mandated by an Enugu High Court Order of Mandamus on May 11 to take over the leadership of the party, following the death of the former National Acting Chairman, Ozo Nwabueze Okafor, also had the order validated by the Appeal Court on July 11 2017.Agbaso, who along with the members of his NWC, met with INEC officials last Friday in Abuja, where he presented to the Political Party Registration and Monitoring Department, the Appeal Court’s validation documents, as well as the party’s 21 day-notice for the conduct of congress and primaries ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra state.Speaking to the media after the meeting, Agbaso disclosed that his team was ready to reorganise APGA and meet with all the stakeholders that left the party in protest due to what he described as poor leadership.On the claim by his Imo State Chapter Chairman that he is still a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), the APGA Acting National Chairman insisted that he is synonymous with APGA, stressing that he left the party out of protest in 2015 and returned after two months.Agbaso, who was full of praises for the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, for his good works in the state, dismissed claims that his emergence as APGA National Chairman could affect his second term ambition.“As you are all aware, on the 22nd of May, an Order of Mandamus was issued, compelling INEC to recognise Martin Agbaso as the Acting National Chairman of APGA, and the letter was duly forwarded to the Commission.
