ANAMBRA 2017: APGA chances in jeopardy as a parallel candidate emerges
The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is becoming a threat to the party’s chances of retaining the governorship seat in Anambra state.
A parallel governorship candidate has emerged from the party for the November 18 election.
The emergence of a second candidate from APGA was the outcome of the primary election the Martins Agbaso led faction of the party held at the rural community of Ezira in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Monday.
The group elected Hearse Igwebike, a retired soldier as its candidate for the coming election.
Igwebike, the second APGA candidate, hails from Umuomaku, also in Orumba South. He defeated Elo Afoka and Chief Chinedu Idigo to emerge candidate in an Option A4 form of voting, where supporters queued behind their favoured aspirants.
Recall that the incumbent Governor Willie Obiano had last week emerged candidate of one of the factions of the party.
APGA has been enmeshed in internal crisis that threw the party into two factions, one loyal to Agbaso and the other to Victor Oye.
An Enugu High Court, presided over by R.A Ozoemena, had in an earlier ruling removed Oye as chairman of the party and replaced him with Agbaso.
However, a later ruling of the Enugu Division of the Court of Appeal annulled the ruling of the High Court in favour of Victor Oye.
Obiano emerged candidate of the faction led by Victor Oye, even as the Agbro’s faction has approached the Supreme Court to take control of the party.
