ANAMBRA 2017: Oduah, Ikpeazu screened, as PDP waives nomination fee for women aspirants

Senator Stella Oduah and House of Representatives member, Lynda Ikpeazu, were some of the aspirants screened Thursday by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra.

Others screened were Dr. Patrick Ubah, John Okechukwu Emeka, a former Minister of State, Dr. Alex Obiogolu, Oseloka Henry Obaze, and Akolisa Ufodike.

The screening exercise took place at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

There was mild drama however when the chairman of the screening committee, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, complained about the lateness of some aspirants which he deemed indiscipline.

He frowned at the fact that some aspirants showed up at the venue 90 minutes behind schedule, singling out Oduah and Ubah as two of the major culprits.

Speaking further, Waziri urged the aspirants to display a spirit of sportsmanship in the overall interest of the party, noting that the PDP had everything to lose if another party won the election.

He promised the aspirants justice and fairness in the conduct of the exercise, adding that in line with the party’s constitution, none of the aspirants would be required to pay above the N6 million nomination fees, while also stating that nomination fee for women aspirants was waived to encourage more women’s participation in politics.
