Anambra: Flood sacks 200 families, damages N10m property in Obosi

No fewer than 200 families have allegedly been sacked by  devastating flood at Oduke layout Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State weekend and N10million worth of property damaged.Making the disclosure to newsmen, a victim who incidentally is the Chairman of the layout, Mr Nicholas Okechukwu, said: “The flood submerged over 100 buildings especially the bungalows in the dead of the night which made it impossible for us to pick a pin as we were struggling with it for survival ”“As you can see all the houses are without occupants, about 200 families who ran away that night may not return, some are hospitalized, the half – drowned ones are recuperating in hospitalswhere they have been placed on the danger list.“This has become a perennial occurance and is compounded by a blockage deliberately erected by  one of the landlords, Mr Francis Chukwuka, who refused to remove the pillars along Obiajulu road.“We want Anambra State Urban Development Board, ASUDEB, to come and remove this obstacle to the smooth flow of flood along the Obiajulu road and he will pay compensation to the victims he caused their problem”.In his defence Mr Chukwuka said, “I can’t remove the pillar ( fence) because it is  elected in the land I procured, I am not the cause of the flood and there is no way land demarcation can be straight as they accused me of not making the fence to be straight when it was being erected”.Contributing, other victims that included the Vice Chairman, Mr. Onyemauche Uzoma, Felix Ifeanyichukwu and Nonso Akunne regretted that state Government would allow a person like Mr Chukwuka to contribute to the flood suffering of the residents. Also seriously affected was the Ebeneze Foundation International School which has been abandoned for the flood. It would be recalled that the ugly development being experienced by the residents started in 2013 during the construction of Ezeiweka road when the flood was channeled into Odume layout. As at the time of going to press residents were seen evacuating their belongings to a safer place and properties damaged included, vehicles, motorcycles, household utensils, farms and streets. For a better society.Report a problem.
