Anambra poll: Ezeemo rejects Ohanaeze, Ekwueme zoning plan
Tony Okafor,

Awka A governorship candidate of the Progressive Peoples Alliance in the Anambra StateNovember 18 poll, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, has rejected the zoning plan by some stakeholders in the state. He said the stakeholders got it wrong by zoning the governorship slot to the Anambra North Senatorial district, where the incumbent Governor Willie Obiano hails from.A former Vice-President, Dr Alex Ekwueme; erstwhile Anambra State governor, Chief Emeka Ezeife and the  Ohanaeze Ndigbo,  had recently favoured the Anambra North zone for the November 18 poll. Ezeemo, who hails from Anambra South zone, said since former governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju, who hails from the area was not allowed to do a second term, it would be unfair for anybody to consider zoning formula.Ezeemo, who spoke with our correspondent on Wednesday in Awka, insisted that if any zoning arrangement must be put in place, his southern zone should be the first to take a turn.He said, “Mbadinuju was governor for four years and he was from the south zone; they said he was not governing well and when Obinna Uzor, who was from the same zone indicated interest to  take over from his brother, Mbadinuju, to correct the seeming anomalies, the rest of Anambra refused and voted against Mbadinuju and the south zone. “And Ngige and Peter Obi from Central zone took over and governed for 11 years. So, if we are to go by any zoning arrangement, then someone from the South has to complete the second term of the zone before we can start talking about a second term for Anambra North.”Report a problem.
