Anambra Poll: Ngige gets support on need for consensus APC candidate

AN APC chieftain, Chief Modestus Umenzekwe, has backed the move by the Minister for Labour and Employment and leader of the party in Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, for the emergence of a consensus candidate in the party.

Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige

Umenzekwe, who spoke in an interview, advised the numerous governorship contenders of APC to realize that only one person would be the governor, arguing that if APC must win the race, there must be cooperation among all members of the party.

He argued that it was not proper for the aspirants to dissipate energy and waste scarce resources in fighting each other for the ticket when they could agree to select the most acceptable person among them.

He said: “We should remember the position of Anambra State in the South East politics. Our great party, APC is greater than any member and so, we should join hands without any drawback to oust the present government of Anambra State. I, therefore, stand on the platform on which Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige is standing, which is that the contestants should, within themselves, be able to support one person to be the flag bearer of our party because everybody cannot be governor and deputy governor at the same time.”

Ngige had consistently advocated that the 12 aspirants should decide among themselves those to support during the primaries so as to reduce the number of aspirants and avoid unnecessary rancor associated with primaries.
