Anambra Poll: Seven shortlisted for Obaze’s deputy

As the deadline for completing the filing the candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship and deputy governorship candidates draws near, indications have emerged from the Oseloka Obaze campaign organisation that seven persons have been shortlisted for the position.

The list includes five men and two women, who were all drawn from South and Central senatorial districts of the state.

Vanguard gathered that the deputy-governorship pre-designates were Anglicans and reportedly had the support of the Anglican Church hierarchy.

The PDP candidate is a Catholic.

According to the source, all those shortlisted were core PDP members.

Obaze emerged the candidate of PDP on 28 August 2017 governorship primary which was contested by seven persons, with Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State as the returning officer.

Meanwhile, Obaze has continued with the reconciliation talks with the PDP aspirants whom he defeated at the primary.

The latest conciliation effort on 11th of September 2017, was chaired by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.

Meanwhile, Anambra PDP caretaker committee meets with candidate, stakeholders today.

The Professor Alphonsus Nwosu –led caretaker committee of the Anambra State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would meet with the governorship candidate of the party, Mr. Oseloka Obaze today in Awka to work out details of rallies in the 21 local government areas of the state.

Others expected at the meeting include the major stakeholders and the governorship aspirants who contested with Obaze for the party’s primary.

Nwosu, who said that the national caretaker committee would take necessary steps to reconcile aggrieved members so that Anambra State PDP could go into the election as one family, appealed to those who were not happy with the outcome of the primary to adopt conciliatory attitudes to enable the national caretaker committee resolve the matter amicably.

It was gathered yesterday that members of the caretaker committee would throw out olive branches to all the aggrieved members of the party during the meeting as part of plans to take the new PDP vision under the candidate to every nook and cranny of the state.

A member of the committee told Vanguard in confidence that there were plans to hold the rallies simultaneously in all the 21 local government areas of the state next week, although details were still being worked out.

In the meantime, the governorship candidate has been holding meetings across the state to thank PDP members at the state and zonal levels for their support.
