ASUU Strike: I Am Not Leading FG’s Negotiation Team – Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has dismissed reports that he will head the Federal Government’s negotiation team, who would meet with the representatives of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and put an end to the strike.

Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande stated this in a tweet on Thursday.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, was quoted to have confirmed this development after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting earlier this week.

However, Akande has debunked the reports, saying it is false.

“News reports that VP Osinbajo has taken over ASUU negotiations is untrue and inaccurate. Labour and Education Ministers continue to lead the talks,” he wrote on Twitter.

ASUU had said they were still waiting to hear from government on their requests .

The union’s president, Abiodun Ogunyemi, said they were not aware of the take over of the government team by Osinbajo.

Report a problem.
