APC Decries Absence Of Result Sheets, To contest Result
Twin explosions ‎rocked Enugu in the early hours of yesterday, as residents filed out to cast their votes in the first council poll under the present dispensation in the state.

The two explosions, which occurred simultaneously, happened at Coal Camp in Enugu North and Obeagu in Enugu-South local councils, even as a team led by Enugu Commissioner of Police, arrested three suspects over the Obeagu explosion.

Confirming the incident, spokesman of Enugu Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu said: “The incident of minor explosion at a spare parts workshop at the entrance leading to a polling station at coal camp axis of Enugu State did not interfere with the voting activities at the polling centre, as the process is still on course there.

“There was a reported incident of explosion in the morning of November 4, 2017 at the coal camp axis, which is an enclave of artisans like welders, mechanics, auto electricians amongst others.”

The Police disclosed that no life was lost, remarking that operatives of the Explosive Ordinance Department of the command were on hand to conduct analysis with a view to finding out the possible cause of the explosion at the workshop and its nature, as well as, possible circumstances.

In his reaction, the Careta‎ker committee chairman of Enugu South council, Mr. Sunday Ugwu, described the blast as unfortunate, even as he praised the police for their prompt response, assuring that it would not affect the exercise.

‎Meanwhile, voting commenced in most of the council areas across the state, with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi voting around 11:30a.m in his Orba ward of Udenu local council.

But, in several areas of Enugu south and Enugu west senatorial zones voting materials were still being awaited as at 12.40pm, a development, which the ENSIEC chairman, Chief Mike Ajogwu, blamed on the police and electoral officers, alleging that his commission sent the items early to the various locations.

However, the national leadership of the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as disturbing reports of non-availability of result sheets in the local government election.

In a statement by its national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, APC charged the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), to “urgently correct this anomaly, so as not to set the stage for disputes that may render the outcome of the election unacceptable.”
