Armed youths have abducted and tortured the coordinator of Ikwo South Development Centre, Marvin Anari in Ebonyi State. The incident it was gathered happened at Ukwuachi playground, Amagu in Ikwo local government area, venue of the stakeholders meeting of the town.

According to an eyewitness, a band of armed men invaded the venue, dragged the coordinator out of the crowd, stripped him and beat him to stupor. He was left for dead inside a closed coffin. Villagers later discovered where he was dumped by his assailants and took him to the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki where he is receiving treatment. As at press time, the council chief’s condition has been stabilised by doctors although he still remains in coma.

The state governor, David Umahi, on a visit to the hospital yesterday described the incident as barbaric. He called for full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction and urged all security agencies to arrest and prosecute those behind the act.

Meanwhile, there was wild jubilation at the Federal Teaching Hospital, FETHA when the governor paid an unscheduled visit to the hospital and cleared the medical bills of all patients who have been unable to pay their bills and return home.

Umahi who visited the hospital after church service at Christ Embassy Church, Abakaliki, went round the wards and identified indigent patients and settled their bills. He also made a cash donation of N500,000 for feeding of all the patients in the hospital.

Also, the governor who returned to the government house to inspect level of work at a factory under construction was moved by compassion when he saw a heavily pregnant woman, Mrs. Gloria Nwnakwo, among the labourers mixing concrete. He made an instant donation of N200,000 for the woman to start any business of her choice.

On sighting the woman, Umahi ordered his convoy to stop, walked to the woman, and ordered her to go home, adding that her condition was not good for such tasking job. He gave other labourers on site N100,000 for their lunch.
