No fewer than 100 houses were at the weekend submerged in different parts of Imo State, following torrential rainfall that lasted for two days, pulling two houses down and property worth several millions of naira destroyed.

The premises of Bishop’s Court of the Anglican Diocese of Egbu, Owerri North, were flooded at window level, leaving office furniture, computer hardwares and other property destroyed.

Chaplain of the bishop, Rev. Progress Okoroafor, said bishop of the diocese, the Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Okoroafor, attributed the sad incident to poor channeling of water ways, disclosing that the area was prone to flooding due to erection of buildings along the water channels.

The Guardian gathered that the recent flood was the worst so far witnessed by the people, even as the victims appealed to the state government and philanthropic individuals to assist them.
