The Ekiti State Government has described the 71.2 percent rate of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)in the state and the second highest among the 36 states, as lamentable.

It said despite existence of legislation criminalising the practice, many people still indulge in the practice, hence, government will now have zero tolerance for FGM.

Speaking at Ekiti State University auditorium at the weekend, during a sensitisation programme tagged: ‘Join Me To Stop Female Genital Mutilation,’ the Commissioner for Information, Sports and Development, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi promised that the state will deal decisively with whoever is found engaging in such practice.

He disclosed that most of the offenders are women, but that the state government will continue to sensitise the populace, until the practice is completely
obliterated.
