The Cadre Harmonise report for food security situation across 17 states of the federation has revealed that 3.15 million Nigerians are experiencing food insecurity, emergency and famine.

The report hinted that 80 percent of affected population is in insurgency states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, while Gombe, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kastina, Benue, Sokoto, Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba, Bauchi, Niger, FCT and Jigawa states are in minimal phase of food insecurity situation, except for parts of Kano that are under stress.

The report conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) World Food Programme (WFP), Oxfam, Action Against Hunger and USAID, among other development partners, stated that for current period of October to December, 13 out of 17 analysed states are in minimal phase of food security situation, while three states are under stress and one state in crisis.

The report noted that the level of food insecurity has improved, compared to previous analysis in March 2017, and that there were significant improvements in North-east states, though food security still remains alarming in the Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.

It also projected that 12,536 people may be in famine situation if adequate remedial measures are not provided.

The report stated that livelihood activities in all the states, except in part of Plateau, Taraba, Benue, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states are favourable, due to increased income from cash crops and sales from ongoing normal harvest in the states.
