New rule change to reduce matches to 60 minutes from 90

World football governing body, FIFA, could be set to implement a new rule change that will see football games last for just 60 minutes, instead of the normal 90.

A new rule change could see football games having just two halves of 30 minutes, rather than the normal two halves of 45 minutes.

The body responsible for making the rules of the game in the world, the International Football Association Board (Ifab) are set to propose the revolutionary new idea.

The concept of ‘added time’ in football may also be set to die out if the new laws come to pass.

In the proposed new format, the clock would be stopped as there was any break in play – with Ifab claiming a regular 90-minute match only sees around 60 minutes of playing time.

The idea is one of a host of new proposed changes to the beautiful game in order to address what are perceived to be “negativities” within the sport.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea striker Gianfranco Zola is on board when it comes to reducing the length of matches.

He told the BBC: “I personally like this rule because there are so many teams who try to take advantage of it because they are winning and wasting time.

“So I think it is not a bad rule.

“Football is fast enough. Some of the changes I don’t like very much, but this is a good one.”
