Nigeria vs Cameroon: Rohr promises to swim, sink with Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has disclosed that Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, is determined to battle the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon with his player to ensure victory in the September double header Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. The federation assured Nigerians that the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon would certainly be the ones under pressure, when they confront the Super Eagles in the September qualifiers at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, Uyo.Technical Director of the federation, Bitrus Bewarang, who gave the assurance in an interview yesterday, dismissed the impression that the current face-off between the Eagles Technical Adviser, and the technical sub-committee would pose a threat to the clash. The former president of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association stated that he has been in constant touch with coach Rohr over his reported threat to resign, adding that he assured him he will swim and sink with the team.“I don’t think it will have any harm on the team. As far as I am concerned, it is natural to scrutinise the team list the technical crew submitted.“We are not compelling him to bring in any player but it will be unthinkable that a technical committee with six ex-internationals will not have any input to make in the list of invited players.“We must try to find a way of avoiding the lacklustre outing recorded against South Africa. There was no coordination and I was not personally happy. What we want from Rohr is to explain to us how he came about this or that player. He even invited players in the second cadre of less fancied foreign leagues. We screen to check certain unpleasant circumstances“Let me re-assure that the crisis will not affect the encounter against Cameroon. I have been in touch with the technical adviser and I had to even question him when I read that he was threatening to resign, but he told me that there was nothing like that. He assured me that we are going to swim and sink together.“As a coach I don’t see any reason to be afraid of Cameroon. We cannot afford to repeat the mistake against South Africa. There is no doubt that Cameroon are the ones under pressure. We have four clear points ahead of other teams in the group,” he noted.Report a problem.
