PDP group begins grassroots mobilization
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Loyal Group 100% says it has commenced nationwide grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2019 general elections in order to ensure victory for the party at all levels.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Dennis Shima, and the Contact and Mobilization Officer, Lawrence Ogidi, the group said its planned programmes to strengthen the party and mobilize for 2019 commenced after it was acknowledged and endorsed by the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, immediately after the Supreme Court victory.
The group, which said it has state chairmen across the country and other national and state officers, added that it has set the necessary machinery in place to achieve its goals.
The statement commended President Muhammadu Buhari for meeting with Senator Makarfi upon arrival from medical treatment in the United Kingdom, adding that such was a good spirit of sportsmanship since politics was not a do-or-die affair.
“We call on all aggrieved members of the PDP to accept reconciliation and support Senator Makarfi-led PDP National Caretaker Committee in the course of rebuilding and uniting PDP before, during and after PDP elective national convention that is coming up by the end of this year as agreed by all PDP stakeholders and members recently. We are equally calling on all PDP officers across Nigeria to support Makarfi to ensure fairness, justice, and equity in the discharge of his duties in the overall interest of PDP,” the statement partly read.
It urged all and sundry in the PDP to eschew all forms of sentiments and voiced its opposition to the imposition of candidates for elective positions both within the PDP and public offices in Nigeria.
It stated its rejection of any situation whereby a few PDP stakeholders would impose candidates for general elections, especially the forthcoming 2019 elections.
