Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), yesterday vowed to continue to attack against members of the National Assembly over their insistence on enjoying jumbo allowances at the expense of ordinary Nigerians.

Sagay, who was responding to a question posed by The Guardian on the seeming internal bickering among those charged with prosecuting the anti-corruption war, said: “ I will attack members of the National Assembly again and again for their stance.

“We pay them for sitting on cushion chairs in air conditioned offices, for their cutleries and even wardrobes, yet they are not ready to make any sacrifices for the country. I will continue to fight them until they change their ways.

On the achievements of the committee, Sagay, while speaking at an interactive meeting in Abuja with stakeholders, development partners, CSOs, FBOs and the media said so far, the Federal Government’s anti-corruption war has been very successful.

Sagay, who attended the meeting with other members of the committee including professors Femi Odekunle and Bolaji Owasanoye, PACAC Executive Secretary, disclosed that within two years of the present administration, the government has recovered about N500 billion from those who looted the treasury while another $325 million is being expected from the Swiss authorities.

He explained that the PACAC has devised several ways of helping the government to recover and return stolen funds and was reviewing the plea bargain and encouraging anti-corruption agencies to proceed against assets.

By this new strategy, “owners of suspicious assets are put under pressure to show how they acquired such assets,” he said, adding that his committee initiated the whistleblower policy to encourage people to reveal stolen funds and hidden assets.
