Ugwuanyi’s projects restore hope in governance in Enugu
newtelegraAs Police Commissioner, CAN commend gov on securityAs ceremonies rolled off the ground across Enugu State Tuesday last week during which several projects embarked upon and completed by Enugu State Government were officially inaugurated, the people of the state came out in their numbers in a joyful mood to celebrate the new lease of life offered them by the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as it marks its second anniversary. This was the collective prevailing disposition of the people across the 17 local council areas of the state last Tuesday as their people-centred governor cut tapes to inaugurate a total of 26 completed projects in the state, especially in the rural areas. As the people continued to show excitement in the face of the new amenities of life delivered to their doorsteps, the governor, who has since warmed himself into the hearts of the populace made a bold move on Thursday, donating, several security vehicles, motorcycles and other equipment for use by neighbourhood watch groups across the state. He was commended by the state Police Commissioner, DanMalam Mohammed for his giant strides in securing the state. The inauguration of the completed projects was a practical fulfilment of the promise and declaration of the decision of the state government to execute a project worth N100million in each of the 17 local council areas of the state. At Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, for instance, Olido Community was the centre for the celebration of eight projects comprising six rural electrification projects in six communities and two motorized boreholes delivered to the people of the area. These are part of the 35 projects flagged off the same day for execution late last year by Governor Ugwuanyi. Besides, in parts of the local government council, the state government, working in partnership with the Federal Government, have also rebuilt and rehabilitated primary schools as well as structures for junior secondary schools. In these educational institutions, stateof- the-art school buildings as well as other facilities have been completed. So, the people sang, they danced and went into hilarious celebrations when the representative of the governor on the occasion, Commissioner for Environment, Ambassador Fidel Ayogu, supported by the chairman of the local council, Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja, proclaimed the symbolic ‘let there be light’ as he cut the tape to mark the delivery of electricity to thousands of residents of the six communities, namely, Umuopu, Olido, Okpo, Umuonu, among others. At the various locations designated across the state for the massive inauguration of completed projects to mark Governor Ugwuanyi’s mid-term stocktaking, the projects lined up included roads, water schemes, electricity, hospitals and buildings among others. And the governor was represented at some of the locations by members of the state executive council. He told the jubilant people that execution of the projects was in keeping with his electioneering promise to drive development to every corner of the state with the aim of creating more urban centres to boost economic growth and improve the lives of the people at the grassroots. He said: “You will recall that precisely on the 15th of October, 2016 and in fulfilment of the promise of the state government to execute a developmental project worth at least N100 million in each of the 17 local government areas of Enugu State, we simultaneously flagged off the execution of vital projects such as roads, water, electricity and others, in all the 17 local government areas of Enugu state,” he stated, just as he pointed out that “it must also be re-emphasized that each of these projects was identified and specified by stakeholders in the respective local government areas of their location.”In Awgu Council Area, Governor Ugwuanyi was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele, while in Aninri LGA, his Senior Special Assistant on Projects, Hon Uche Ogbonna, stood in for him.The happiness was equally spread to Udi where the Ibuzor Amokwe Station Road was also opened officially for use after completion. Governor Ugwuanyi was personally at Nkanu East where the Amechi Idodo- Amauzam-Amagunze Road and other projects were also officially opened to the delight of the rural dwellers, especially as the area had earlier been designated, after a survey, to be the least developed local government area in the state. At the launch of the security fund and lavish donations to the watch groups, the state police commissioner had commended the governor for what he called “Your Excellency’s giant strides” in securing the state, saying “as we all know, security is first and most important dividends of democracy because without security, there will be no development”.And the governor equally told the crowd that “as you are aware, the enthronement of peace, safety and security in Enugu State has been and will remain a cardinal policy objective of this administration”.Similarly, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on the occasion also commended the governor for enthroning good governance in the state which it said has also been effectively secured under his watch. CAN spoke through its Enugu State Secretary, Apostle Joseph Ajujungwa, during the launch of Neighbourhood Watch Fund.
