Why I gave away my UEFA Super Cup medal
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has explained reasons for giving away his medal during Tuesday’s UEFA Super Cup final against Real Madrid.
After his side went up to collect their runners up medals, the former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss handed his medal to a kid in the stands in Macedonia, a kind gesture he has made a habit of in recent years.
When quizzed on the incident, Mourinho said: “Sometime when I win I don’t keep the medals so imagine when I lose. For that kid it’s the moon. It was a little kid with a Man United shirt. I have no idea where he came from.”
United, who finished 24 points adrift of champions Chelsea last season, start the new Premier League campaign when they host West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
