Woman on motorcycle crushed to death at Apapa

The scene of the accident

There was pandemonium yesterday at Otto Wolf bus-stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway when a trailer crushed a woman to death around 1:12p.m. The Guardian gathered that the deceased, whose identity was unknown, was going to the market when the motorcycle she boarded with her two children had a problem.

According to an eyewitness, immediately the woman alighted from the motorcycle the trailer that was coming right behind her knocked her down. The driver immediately fled the scene. After much empathy by eyewitnesses who gathered at the scene, her body was taken to the mortuary.

Otto Wolf is the only road that leads to Achakpo-Boundary and Mile 2. It is in a deplorable condition littered with dumps. It would be recalled that on Tuesday, operatives of the Lagos State task force impounded 146 motorcycles and arrested 21 riders at the Second Rainbow area of Mile 2, close to the scene of the accident. The agency had carried out the raid owing to the activities of motorcycle riders who were dispossessing members of the public of their valuables and plying on restricted routes.

In another development, tragedy struck in the early hours of yesterday around Ehiabor Street, Agbor Ika South Local Council of Delta State when a middle-aged man identified as Lucky Nkeki, was allegedly hacked to death by officials of the council.

It was gathered that Nkeki was responding to a distress call by his uncle based in the United States of America about some “area boys” who invaded his building site, demanding N200,000 before work would continue on a project he claimed he had paid for before when the foundation was laid.

Sources said the victim, a father of five, was said to have made the relevant papers available to the boys, reminding them that the building was not new, but an ongoing project for which payment had been made to the council.

It was gathered that the appeals made by Nkeki got the boys angry, and in the process threatened that except the money was made available, they won’t allow the workers already at the site to proceed; a development that resulted in heated argument before he was allegedly hacked to death with an iron road.

A police officer in Agbor who does not want his name in print, said the boys have been arrested on the spot, and are currently being detained for further investigations.

Relatives of the victims have vowed to ensure justice in the alleged murder of their brother, threatening that until justice prevails, peace will not reign at the council.

Report a problem.
