​ANAMBRA OPENS DATA BASE FOR JOB SEEKERS

Gov Willie Obiano announced that the state government will commence registration of all unemployed youths across the various local government areas of the state. 

He made this known during a Eucharistic mass held at St Patricks Cathedral, Awka to mark the 2017 Independence Day celebration.

The mass was well-attended by dignitaries including former Vice-President, Dr Alex Ekwueme; former governor, Dame Virgie Etiaba; former Deputy-governor, Emeka Sibeudu; State government functionaries, and service chiefs in the State amongst others. 

Gov Obiano noted that the registration would be done according to the educational qualifications of the youths, and said that the exercise was to assist government plan effectively for their welfare and provide sustenable means of livelihood for them.

According to him, the funds for the initiative have been factored into the state budget for 2017 and the implementation would commence immediately the budget was passed by the State House of Assembly. 

The Governor stated that the nation is presently at a difficult situation owing to the numerous challenges facing it, and commended Ndi Anambra for maintaining law and order especially in the face of agitations. 

He said the year’s celebration is an opportunity to reflect on the challenges the nation is facing with a view to securing a fair deal for all constituting parts of the country. 

Earlier in a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor attributed the agitations, tensions and sense of hopelessness in the country to years of injustice, marginalization and corruption which Nigeria had experienced. 

He therefore called for fervent prayers for God’s intervention to salvage the seeming hopeless situation in the country. Special prayers were at then said for the peace of the nation and the development of the state.
