Katsina Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Safiyanu Kamala, who allegedly impregnated a mentally retarded woman, one Ms. Islamia, 25.Kamala, a farmer and resident of Jino village in Kankara Local Council, had reportedly confessed to the police that he was responsible for Islamia’s 28-week-old pregnancy.
The Guardian learnt that the suspect was in the habit of luring the woman to his farm, where he had “carnal knowledge of her.”The victim, who currently lives with members of her family, had reported the incident to the police on December 8, this year, which led to the arrest.
In another development, a 45-year-old man, Ahmadu Yahaya was also arrested by the police for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl. Yahaya, of Kuraye village in Charanchi Local Council, was said to have lured the little girl to his shop, to commit the act.
Spokesman for police command in the state, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed both incidents.“Yes, Kamala has been arrested. He had multiple canal knowledge of the victim on his farm and he has confessed to us. He will soon be arraigned in court.”On the rape allegation against the little girl, Isah said Yahaya would be prosecuted after police had completed investigation.
